What is Daygame, or is it Day Game?
The Urban Dictionary defines it as “the act of doing work on a woman in daylight hours so as to make slamming a guarantee during the night”.
Most straight men would have experienced this scenario numerous times:
You spot a beautiful, well-groomed woman walking on the street or in the shop, there’s a sudden rush of blood, the temptation to just walk up to her, say hello and get to know her (at least a little) and possibly get intimate with her… but, you just sigh and let the moment pass, well, because it violates normal social norms, is plain scary or maybe it makes you feel that you don’t deserve her for a thousand reasons.
Listen up, single, lonely men. Daygame (I’ll stick to one word here) offers a solution, at least promises to!
At its very simplistic, Daygame is the art of approaching women (who are strangers by the way) during the day, striking up a conversation with them and if possible, getting their phone number or a date that may eventually lead to the bedroom.
A little disclaimer here. This article chronicles the idea of Daygame. It is not intended for coaching purposes.
The Game: Penetrating the Secret Society of Pickup Artists
Much has changed in the world of pickup since 2005 when Neil Strauss, a journalist by profession, came out with his tome on seduction, “The Game: Penetrating the Secret Society of Pickup Artists”, shedding a light on the world of pickup artists and their techniques and skills to get a woman into bed.
The Game was about Strauss’s journey through the world of pickup and featured Mystery (real name Erik von Markovik). The book was mainly about picking up women in bars and night clubs.
The same year, famous New York day gamer Paul Janka, a Harvard graduate, came out with a concise booklet, “Getting Laid in NYC: Technology for the Single Man” that guides men wanting to get laid with a series of techniques to get that ‘phone number’. Janka’s style was indirect and he claimed that at the time of writing that book, his lay count had just touched 100!
The London Daygame Model
A few years later, a step-by-step model was developed which later became famous as the London Daygame Model. It was the brainchild of a group of pickup artists:
Yad, of the famous ‘Yad Stop’, Tom Torero, Andy Yosha and Jon Matrix. Nick Krauser also deserves special mention here for his contribution to the model. The model comprises five steps:
• Open or the Stop: You spot the girl, stop her (the popular ‘Yad stop’ is widely used), greet her and start chatting with her.
• Stacking: Once you have stopped her, it’s time to make some playful assumptions, typically about her country or ethnicity to take the conversation forward. You can also start teasing her at this point.
• Vibing is just lighthearted chat about common topics that you might figure out during the course of your brief chat.
• The Hook Point, or investment, is the part where the girl gets curious and starts asking questions. It is a clear indication she’s starting to invest in you and you have been successful in building some rapport.
• Close is the last step where you ask her for her phone number or some social media contact to set up a date.
How do you approach a woman?
The beauty of Daygame is that you can approach women while going about your daily life, such as grocery shopping or during your lunch break.
Typical Daygame spots are malls, supermarkets, parks, cafes, bookshops or simply the street — basically, any place where pretty women are out and about.
One of the advantages of approaching during the day is that women generally will be more relaxed as opposed to night game which has a heightened atmosphere with loud music and alcohol flowing freely.
Additionally, with bars and night clubs there’s much more competition with everyone — both gals and guys dressed to impress — and a hot girl will probably be hit on by many guys during a short span of time.
Consequently, she is likely to give harsh rejections if you don’t measure up to her expectations. Or in game terminology, might give you ‘shit tests’.
Direct Daygame Verses Indirect Daygame
Daygame has more or less branched out into Direct and Indirect. What does that mean?
Direct Game means stopping a woman and openly expressing your desire for her, nicely, of course! A typical direct approach is a compliment opener, where the guy greets a woman with a remark about her appearance.
It is a bold act because you are not hiding your agenda for chatting her up. Direct game has its advantages, but in the post #MeToo era, it also carries some risk if not done well or if you come off as sleazy or harassing her.
Indirect game is a more low-pressure approach, wherein the guy moves in with something situational. It could be any remark about the environment, for example, you spot her in a supermarket aisle looking for dog food. You could start off by asking for recommendations etc.
Many Hollywood movies have scenes where the ‘boy meets girl’ happens at a bookshop or an art gallery with some innocuous remark to start the conversation and leading to a relationship.
One of the advantages of going indirect is you can effectively sidestep the awkwardness in approaching and avoid the attention of curious passersby because you ease into a conversation and once there’s some rapport, you can ask for her phone number or maybe even go on an instant date if time permits and the girl is interested.
How do you tell if a woman wants you to approach her?
Ever since Neil Strauss’s book The Game came out, the topic has drawn all kinds of responses from the media and society. Especially, with the rise of feminism, pickup has been vilified by mainstream media.
However, it is important to remember that most men are simply trying to solve the problem of approaching a woman they are attracted to as they go about their daily life, and because of what society teaches us about strangers, it’s hard to develop the courage to approach a stranger on the street.
Most men are not ‘predators’, or potential rapists, as they are often portrayed. In fact, society would collapse if most men were!
Daygame offers a strategy for heterosexual men to get over their ‘approach anxiety’, social awkwardness and fears to talk to women outside their own social circle.
